The recantation of Robert Davis

Arrested shortly after midnight on the morning of February 22, 2003, 18-year Robert Paul Davis was taken at gunpoint from the Staunton Walmart and interrogated in Charlottesville for more than five hours, beginning around 2am. As the transcript shows, he insisted dozens of times he had nothing to do with what happened in the Crozet house where a pair of murders had taken place. He repeatedly offered to take a polygraph test and said that he was tired and just wanted to sleep.

With his legs shackled, he complained he was cold, and it was almost 7am when Davis asked a fateful question of his interrogator: "What can I say I did to get me out of this?"

This is a story of a teen– no longer a teen– who says he's been in prison for nearly a decade for crime he didn't commit.
