Hawes Spencer is the founding editor of the Hook. He arrived in Charlottesville in 1989 to co-found C-ville Weekly, but after an unplanned departure in 2002, he quickly launched the Hook, which won dozens of journalism awards under his leadership. In addition to his voluminous editing, writing, and photography duties, he created award-winning ad campaigns, oversaw the Hook's website, and served as one of the four owners of the parent company of both the Hook and C-ville until he sold his stake in the company at the end of 2012.
He maintains a Twitter feed and a subscribable Facebook page, and– even though he's no longer connected to this newspaper– he doesn't mind letting you know his phone number: 434-960-9343.
