Hawes Spencer is the founder and editor of the Hook. He arrived in Charlottesville in 1989 to co-found C-ville Weekly, but after an unplanned departure from that gig in 2002, he quickly launched the Hook, which has won dozens of journalism awards under his leadership. In addition to his voluminous editing, writing, and photography duties, he has created award-winning ad campaigns, oversees the Hook's website, and now serves as one of the four owners of the parent company of both the Hook and C-ville.
He does not have his own Twitter or Facebook pages but instead avidly contributes to both the Hook Twitter feed and the Hook Facebook page.
