Apprentice Pinkett speaks tonight

Donald Trump's current "apprentice," the big winner from the NBC television show by that name will speak tonight at UVA. He is Randal D. Pinkett, and he's a high-tech entrepreneur who grew up in New Jersey, graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University and was the first African-American from his alma mater to receive a Rhodes Scholarship. The 34-year-old, now holding five degrees, speaks tonight on "Black Intellectual Entrepreneurship: Bridging the Digital Divide." Today, the Charlottesville City School Board has voted. And the winner is... Rosa Atkins of Midlothian, Virginia. She's the new Superintendent of Charlottesville City Schools. Currently the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in 4000-student Caroline County, Atkins has ten years as a classroom teacher, three years as an assistant principal, six years as a principal, and two years each in the roles of Director of Leadership Development, Director of Instruction and Assistant Superintendent. read full story

The folks at TJ's house say that too many people are parking on the shoulders of Route 53 to use the swanky new park/parkway. So stop that! The nice people at Monticello say that they plan to build a whopper of a parking lot, so that might eventually ameliorate the problemo. By the way, The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs. It was flat out.. legal warfare. Venerable burger bar Riverside Lunch was suing its former employee, Ryan Martin, for allegedly ripping off the Riverside concept. The suit, filed in January 2005, claimed that Riverside's décor– as well as its methods of cooking and serving hamburgers and other fried foods– was unique and that customers might get confused if they stepped into Martin's Grill, which opened nearly a year ago at Forest Lakes. read full story

Guilty! Monticello marauders cop a plea

The saga of the Monticello break-in ended on Thursday, May 6, as UVA nursing students Heather Lynn Horn and Connor Hyland Ginley pled guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor trespass, avoiding jail time and a felony record for breaking and entering. On Saturday night, March 20, the two had attended the 100th anniversary dinner of The Raven Society, an elite UVA honor society of which Horn was reportedly a member. read full story
