If you happened to be driving past Pantops Mountain last Saturday, July 8 you may have noticed a sea of yellow police tape around the Sun Trust Bank and a veritable army of law enforcement up and down the roadway. Was it a terrorist attack? A hostage situation? No, it was a phoned in bank robbery.

Teen struck, seriously hurt

A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured today when she was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Hydraulic Road near the car wash in the K-Mart shopping center. City spokesman Ric Barrick says that Charlottesville Police believe the girl was one of three teens trying to cross when the accident occurred.

Hook secures gag-removal hearing

The Hook has been granted a hearing on its motion to open the gag on records and proceedings of the two Albemarle County youths convicted in juvenile court of conspiring to blow up schools and kill classmates. Plane struck wires while landing

"Our preliminary report indicates that it struck some wires on approach," says FAA spokesperson Laura Brown, speaking of this morning's crash of a Beechcraft Bonanza.
The crash site, in a tree-laden gully in a North Garden cow pasture, showed no obvious skid marks or other evidence suggesting anything other than a sudden impact.
