Soul-infused rock trio Grand Ole Party has been constantly compared to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and turned enough heads along the way to land an opening slot on tour with Rilo Kiley. Snack Truck opens.

Emmylou is an award-winning songwriter who was discovered by Gram Parsons in the early 70’s and was an important part of his “cosmic American music”, including the seminal posthumous album Grievous Angel, before striking out on her own in 1975. Pretty soon she had attracted the attention of Dolly Parton and Daniel Lanois, among others, and more recent collaborators have also included Dre Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler and Bright Eyes singer Conor Oberst.

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are gathering so much attention — Rolling Stone loves them, for example — largely because they are one of the only remaining Black string bands, a fading link to the Black folk music of the 1920’s and 1930’s.

The Whiskey Rebellion and The Bourbon Specials keep the party going after their 214 fundraiser ends.

The multitalented local musician spins a big wheel to pick his instrument and rolls the dice to choose a format. OK, fine, it’s new agey piano for brunch. We can dream, though.

You may have already caught The Whiskey Rebellion elsewhere around town — Miller’s, for example, where they showcased their bluegrass and Americana at a few sporadic shows over the last couple months.

This show will also feature the Courtney Hollow Band, who have a more traditional take on bluegrass, and the Wednesday Night Regulars, a local quintet which came together at 214’s weekly jam sessions and have yet to come up with a competent name for themselves.

Judy Collins was one of the celebrated Greenwich Village crossover folk singer successes of the 1960’s and has accordingly close ties with folks like The Byrds, Stephen Stills, and Leonard Cohen. Her 1967 album “Wildflowers” included a version of Joni Mitchell’s song “Both Sides Now” which went on to win a Grammy, as did “Send In The Clowns” from the 1973 Stephen Sondheim musical “A Little Night Music.”
