Historic Key West Parade delights

As neighbors sat in lawn chairs watching the Key West Fourth of July Parade, in the Key West subdivision on Route 20 North, they saw three "beauty queens" vying for Miss Key West, a front-end loader hauling a couch with teenagers, a goat, lawn mowers, a llama, go-carts, scooters, Uncle Sam, kids and adults decked out in funny hats and red, white, and blue, the local fire department, and plenty of fancy cars. "I've been watching the parade for 37 years," said Key West resident Diane Woerner, " and I think it started before that." The parade ended at the Key West Swim & Tennis Club, where Miss Key West was selected and ceremoniously thrown in the pool.
