$26-40 (average dinner bill for 2 excluding alcohol)
A gourmet wine and cheese shop serving lunch and dinner in a Mediterranean atmosphere, quirky and charming on Route 151 near Wintergreen. Sunday brunch especially worth the drive, with piperrada French-Basque egg concoction-- and mimosas!
Basic Necessities celebrates the European mentality which places value on thoughtful food preparation, conversation and relaxation. La table in French signifies so much more than just âthe table,â or dinner table. It means a place where family and friends can eat, drink, talk and just be together for hours over a simple and fresh meal. At Basic Necessities Kay Pfaltz merges her knowledge of French wines and cheeses with Beverly Lacey and Keith Dix of Blue Heron Farm, a pesticide-free farm just two miles away, to create the unique atmosphere and cuisine that has earned Basic Necessities its many followers. In many ways we have subscribed to the philosophy of the âSlow Food Movementâ since opening in June of 1997. In the future we plan to increase our use of local, seasonal and pesticide-free farm products.
