DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY 8 DAYS EARLY
Each Wednesday at 5pm for the Thursday paper that appears eight days later.
NOTE: That's the deadline for getting a tiny listing in the Hook. If you
want your event considered for a lengthier write-up, we recommend getting it in
at least a week earlier than that-- and including an 800K or larger (but no more
than 3mg) image.
CRITERIA
The Hook evaluates events on a case-by-case basis. We build the Culture section
to emphasize the fine arts in the area, so our section editors must choose from
among many fabulous Central Virginia events. Therefore, there's no guarantee your
gig will get listed. Alas, many of the finest bingo games, trunk shows, open houses,
hula contests, wine tastings, and get-rich-quick speeches never get listed.
Some things to think about to make your event more attractive to our editors:
Is it close to Charlottesville? The farther you go, the more travel-worthy
it must be. (Mick Jagger in Charlottesvile beats Boxcar Willie in Amherst, if ya
know what we mean.)
Is it affordably priced? When space gets tight, which is often, we lean toward
lower-cost events.
Is it free but designed to get folks to buy something? Please don't even
bother typing up that press release.
NOTES ON PRESS RELEASES
Recognizing that many community groups have never crafted a press release, we cordially
offer the following tips about what to include:
-name of sponsoring organization
-name and phone number of key contact person
-a brief description of the event including date, time, place, and cost
-a publishable contact phone number for public to call
