Open Mic Night: Be the first to keep that New Year's resolution to become a star this year by wowing us at our intergalactically famous open mic. Corey Harris: For those who haven't already heard, Charlottesville blues and ethno-fusion guitarist Corey Harris was one of 24 winners of a 2007 MacArthur Fellowship, a distinction informally known as the "Genius Awards." The rest of the world is finally starting to catch up to what we've known for years. The popular local bluesman is currently on a reggae kick. Gravity Lounge. $10-$15, 8pm.

Faster Than Walking: Old-time music at Fellini's #9. $3, 10pm.

Joseph Mills: The young local musician whips out his keyboard for a set loaded with college-friendly cover songs. Coupe DeVille's. Free, 10pm.

Ultra Dolphins: The popular Richmond outfit Ultra Dolphins plays punk-influenced heavy rock. Modern Things open. Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar. $3-$7, 10pm.

The Matthew Willner Quartet: Willner brings out the fusion project for this one, but with more fingerpicked nuance than blazing scale runs. Maya. Free, 10pm.

Accordion Death Squad: People named "Rat" playing gypsy music on accordions? We couldn't make this stuff up if we tried. Mono Loco. Free, 10:30pm.
