Caution flag? Richmond NASCAR event doesn’t sell out

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that there were still tickets available for Saturday’s Chevy Rock & Roll 400 after the green flag dropped, breaking the streak of 33 consecutive NASCAR Sprint/Nextel/Winston Cup sell-outs at Richmond International Raceway, a streak that goes back to 1991. RIR officials blame the slow sales on Tropical Storm Hanna, but ticket sales have been sluggish just about everywhere throughout this NASCAR season.

While the hurricane might have had something to do with Saturday’s sluggish sales, most people just can’t justify the fuel and transportation costs to follow the circuit any longer. It will get worse when gas reaches $5.00 a gallon nex year.
