Croatian swimmer and UVA student Vanja Rogulj was a long shot in the 100m breaststroke at this year’s Summer Olympics, and over the weekend, he didn’t exceed those expectations. On Saturday, Rogulj finished sixth in his heat with a time of 1:02.42, not fast enough to advance to the semifinal round.

Japan’s Kosuke Kitajima ended up standing atop the medal stand with the gold around his neck, having set a new world record with a time of 0:58.91 in the final.

Rogulj will have another shot at the medal stand on Friday, when he swims with the rest of the Croatian 4×100m medley relay team for their qualifying heats. Should Rogulj and company make it to the final, they’ll race on tape delay during NBC’s primetime coverage at 10pm on Saturday, August 16. If you don’t want to be surprised, you’ll be able to check the results online after the race happens at 11am Saturday morning.
