Hook reporter talks fire tests on WINA
published 5:28pm Wednesday Jul 9, 2008
Would your family survive a house fire? This week, a Hook special report reveals a horrifying truth about a safety device found in nearly every American home. Tune in to WINA’s “Charlottesville –Right Now” with Coy Barefoot tomorrow at 4:15 to hear Hook reporter Courteney Stuart discuss the live-fire smoke detector test the newspaper conducted, how one expert is helping change smoke detector laws one state at a time, and how to make sure you’ll have enough time to escape from a fire. #

Horrifying? Will we survive the night? I’m not sure I can wait until 4:15 tomorrow.
Horrifying it is, Liz. Scoff on, but if you have the wrong kind of smoke detector, and you have a fire (lots of lightning around these days) you might not survive the night. A word to the wise…
Made it!
The point is, if there’s something in my house that puts me in imminent danger, I’d like to know about it ASAP. It’s a bit like those evening news teasers: “A common household product is a deadly danger that threatens everyone in your home! Story at 11.”
Dear Elizabeth,
If you or anyone else wants to know more about our smoke detector findings, you can read about them in this week’s cover story:
