Dave rocks out with the Dalai Lama

As protests in his name raged across the country, including here in Charlottesville, the Dalai Lama took time out of his schedule for a Q&A session with Dave Matthews on Friday. A reportedly nervous Matthews interviewed the Tibetan spiritual leader at Seattle’s Key Arena for roughly an hour. Among other things, Matthews asked the 14th Lama about music’s role in the worldwide push for compassion. “The message of love through music,” the Lama responded, “may be stronger in depth.” After a set by fellow Seattleites Death Cab for Cutie, Matthews played unplugged with longtime guitar cohort Tim Reynolds.
