A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured today when she was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Hydraulic Road near the car wash in the K-Mart shopping center. City spokesman Ric Barrick says that Charlottesville Police believe the girl was one of three teens trying to cross when the accident occurred. Another teenager was also struck, Barrick says, but that teen’s injuries were minor.

Because information supplied by one of the teens suggests that they failed to look in the proper direction, Barrick says, no charges will be filed against the man driving the small black SUV which struck the teens.

Barrick adds that while rain fell in Charlottesville today, no rain was falling at 2:40pm, the time of the accident.
