Fiesta! El Cinco de Mayo comes to City Market

Gray skies couldn't keep people away from the Charlottesville's City Market Saturday, May 3. Although it was still two days until the official holiday, the City Market was celebrating "El Cinco de Mayo" and provided plenty of entertainment to help with the festivities.

Colorful balloons brightened the otherwise gloomy day, as did toe-tapping music from a host of musical acts and the always-appealing offerings from the wide variety of vendors of food and crafts. The Hispanic Choir from the Incarnation Catholic Church was a big hit: Little children gathered in clusters to hear them play and sing.

It was a lively backdrop for the City Market, held weekly on Saturday mornings during the warm times of the year. Families strolled with children in hand, shopping for Mother's Day presents and produce. Music, flowers, asparagus, jewelry, bagels... what more can we ask for in a parking lot right downtown?
