No snakes here: Winery celebrates St. Patrick's Day

Only a 15-minute drive from Charlottesville, First Colony Winery began celebrating St. Patrick's Day a little early. The new winery near Simeon (it opened just last year) began its three-day celebration on Saturday, March 15.

Visitors sampled the vineyard's array of wines that accompanied good 'ole Irish standards such as shepherd's pie and soda bread. Tours were available, but guests seemed more interested in tasting than touring... wonder why?

The event was a family affair, with owners Margaret and Randy McElroy manning the register, and their children, Ellie and Edmund, doing their part to help out. The "tasting room associates," Karen and April, added to the festive atmosphere.
