Flag flaunting hurts

The article in The Hook [Cover story October 31, 2002, "Heritage or Hate?"] (http://www.readthehook.com/92580/cover-cross-bear-southern-prideor-preju...), about the flaunting of the Confederate flag in spite of the hurt it causes a neighbor, shows an insensitivity toward others that does nothing to advance the cause of race relations which all of us, both black and white, are trying to repair.

Schools should teach more American history and present it as it was, no matter how disturbing. But to keep the Confederate flag flying in spite of the hurt it causes does nothing to promote a peaceful and helpful solution.

Shame on the person who does that.
