Slumming's offensive

I have never been a fan of John Whitehead, but the coverage in The Hook [Hot Seat, August 22, 2002] ( has sealed it in concrete. I have been a resident of Albemarle County for most of my life, born here and raised here "in the slums of Afton."

I take umbrage at Whitehead's classification of my neighborhood. Neither I nor any of my neighbors begged Whitehead to move into our area; the decision to do so was his. If anything, his presence makes my neighborhood less attractive.

Perhaps Whitehead should consider living elsewhere, we do not need him as a neighbor.
