Jeff Coffin

Jazzy sax player who sometimes heads into more mainstream territory, starting in 1998 when he joined Béla Fleck's instrumental fusion supergroup The Flecktones. In 2008 he was an obvious choice for a temporary replacement when LeRoi Moore was unable to tour with the Dave Matthews Band due to injuries from an ATV accident, and when Moore died shortly thereafter, Coffin more or less joined the band permanently. Here he'll be playing with his "Mu'Tet," a sort of revolving-door project which most recently has roped in bassist Felix Pastorius, son of Jaco, and Bill Fanning, whose tendency to run his trumpet through guitar pedals might just one-up Coffin's ability to play two saxophones at once. Sokoband opens with alternately jazzy and ambient meditations built out of bass, vocals, and piano.
