Snap: Rainbow after the storm
There was one pot of gold north of downtown and another atop Monticello Mountain-- with First Presbyterian Church and the former Monticello Hotel in between.photo by Tom DalyThe storm that roared through Charlottesville in the early evening of Tuesday, April 26 left behind an attractive rainbow. The storm dropped pea-sized hail and what appeared to be at least an inch of rain downtown. However, the official rainfall tally at UVA's McCormick Observatory was just .42 inches, and at the airport it was just .07 inches. At one point, as many as 2,200 electric customers of Dominion Virginia Power were left in the dark. And there's a chance of additional severe thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
