ANNUAL MANUAL- People in Your Neighborhood
Every week in our "HotSeat" feature, we ask prominent locals about living in these parts. Here now, some recent highlights:
Radio talk show host, WKAV
What's worst about living here? It's definitely got its share of "small town" gossip... and apparently it takes 40 years to build a road. I still can't wrap my mind around that.
Who'd play you in the movie? Would love to say Jude Law... but every day puts me closer to Jack Black territory.
Best advice you ever got? On play-by-play... You are not the story. The game is the story. Call the play, then shut up, and get out of the way.
Lt. Todd Hopwood
Public information officer, Albemarle County
Why here? Why not? I like four seasons.
People find most annoying about you: I am very "by the book."
Biggest 21st-century creep out? I watched the movie Hostel that grossed me out, does that count?
Lawyer and former Democratic primary candidate for governor
Most overrated virtue? "My southern drawl"
What would you change about yourself? I'd have fundraising connections to rival Terry McAuliffe.
Most embarrassing moment? My junior prom outfit. Fortunately, there are no pictures.
Book critic, The Washington Post
What do you like best about Charlottesville? Its used bookstores, especially Heartwood and Daedalus.
Subject that causes you to rant? Any sort of nationalism. As William James once said, "I am against greatness and bigness in all their forms."

Democratic candidate for Charlottesville City Council
What's worst about living here? People in different classes don't talk to each other– it's like we live in a bunch of parallel universes.
Whom do you admire? Barack Obama
Biggest 21st-century creep out? Genetically modified food.
Executive director, SARA
Why here? I grew up in Virginia and went to UVA. I came to Charlottesville in 1999 and it felt like coming home.
What would you change about yourself? I'm a procrastinator; I'd like to change that... someday.
Favorite hangout? Mudhouse on the Downtown Mall on a warm sunny day.
Founder, Building Goodness Foundation
Why here? I came to UVA in 1973, started working for A-school professors after graduation, and forgot to leave.

Who would play you in the movie? When I was playing for the Hornets and I was in much better shape, my teammates used to tease me and call me Jean Claude Van Damme.
