Big belts to play JPJ Arena

The big belts are coming! After years of planning and about $131 million in construction spending, the John Paul Jones Arena will open with... drumroll... World Wrestling Entertainment, formerly known as WWF. But while that's the first event listed on today's press release from SMG Management, the company booking these entertainment riches, spokesperson Anne Hoof says that wrestling is just a taste of what's to come in UVA's new 16,000-seat basketball palace. Other events, she says, will be publicly announced prior to the Arena's opening in July.
WWE’s "Monday Night Raw" comes to Charlottesville for the first time August 14 and will be telecast live on the USA network. According to Wikipedia, the "Raw" program is widely considered the flagship program of the WWE (with a taped program "Smackdown!" serving as a sort of B-side).
Other Arena events over the coming year include Disney on Ice, the Lipizzaner Stallions, Sesame Street Live, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and the previously announced Harlem Globetrotters.

You should do a story about what a sham "professional" wrestling is!

It's time Charlottesville stopped catering to its intellectual elite and brought some entertainment for those who like to bust heads. After spending $131 million on the arena, a "world class city" is finally getting some "world class" wrestling.
