Prez scholar goes Nixonian
Well, sort of. Timothy Naftali, the presidential recordings scholar and terrorism expert at UVA's Miller Center, will leave this fall to become the first director of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California.>Naftali is well known for his writings in Slate as well as books on the Cold War. But lest ye think Naftali is some sort of devoted fan of wiretappings (he does after all run the Miller Center's project on Oval Office tapes), he comes off in today's Washington Post story as a self-described Gen-Xer with a passion for 1960s and 1970s pop culture.
"That period was phenomenal in American history," he tells the Post. "You've got all the lunar landings. You've got the Miami Dolphins' perfect season, you've got Ali versus Frazier. You've got some of the greatest movies ever made, you know, Godfather I and II."
