Dave to guest star on TV’s House

Thousands of devoted fans have called Dave Matthews a musical genius. Now he gets to play one on TV.

According to Hollywood trade publication Variety, Charlottesville's own will guest star in a March episode of Fox's medical drama House as a savant whose mental development was stunted by a childhood accident that also gave him the ability to play the piano flawlessly. Also putting in a one-off appearance in this episode will be Kurtwood Smith (Red Forman on That 70's Show), playing Matthews' father.

After years of showing off his thespian abilities in DMB music videos (including the Julia Roberts-starring "Dreamgirl" in 2005), Matthews has been slowly building an acting career. He made his screen debut in 2003's Where the Red Fern Grows, but due to internal production woes, the film never received wide distribution. Matthews bounced back to co-star in the 2005 children's movie Because of Winn-Dixie as a guitar-playing neighbor, which earned over $20 million at the box office. His third spin on the silver screen is set to come this year in Lake City, a family drama starring fellow Charlottesvillian Sissy Spacek.
