City announces Festival of the Photo

We've already got a film festival and a book festival. And now, thanks to a partnership between the City and the National Geographic Society, we're about to get the Festival of the Photo.

In a Saturday release, City spokesman Ric Barrick says the Festival will take place in June. Until then, National Geographic is whipping up interest with a Downtown Mall display of "extra large" banners featuring images captured using time-lapse photography from cameras placed in the wild by Geographic photographers.

The sponsorship is fitting perhaps because Charlottesville is already home (in addition to two Geographic writers), to three Geographic photogs: Sam Abell, William Allard, and Nick Nichols. Perhaps after this Festival, we'll get a few more?
