Bad weather claims the lives of two local women
While the snow and ice that arrived yesterday led to a number of accidents in the area, including this one on Rio Road, on Interstate 81 near Winchester the bad weather unfortunately claimed the lives of two local women, the Daily Progress reports.
Thomasina Bryant, 36, of Charlottesville, was driving her Toyota SUV near Winchester yesterday when she lost control of the car, went across the median, and hit an oncoming car. Odessa Smith, 47, of Barboursville, who was a passenger in the car with Bryant, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bryant died later at a Winchester hospital. There were no reports on the status of others involved in the crash.
According to City spokesman Ric Barrick, Bryant had been an employee for 13 years in the City Treasurer's Office, and had been on a trip with her son to look at colleges.
