UVA men’s basketball takes first in ACC
No Cavalier fans, you're not dreaming. It's February, and the UVA men's basketball team is in sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. With a 69-65 win last night on the road over Maryland, the 'Hoos got themselves out of a tie with Boston College for the top spot. That brings the Cavs' current winning streak to seven, with all of those victories coming against ACC rivals. That's good enough for a record of 8-2 in the conference, 16-6 overall.
With March Madness but weeks away, UVA's hopes of making the NCAA Tournament are looking brighter than ever. According to ESPN "bracketologist" Joe Lunardi, if the tournament field were chosen today, the Cavaliers would barely slide into the Big Dance as a #12 seed in the San Jose bracket taking on the #5 seeded Indiana Hoosiers. However, Lunardi hasn't updated his predictions since January 31, and since then the 'Hoos have vanquished Duke, Miami, and Maryland. So check back soon to see how the Cavs' seeding has improved!
