U-Hall still thrills

After the Harlem Globetrotters dazzle the crowd at JPJ on Friday night, not forgotten U-Hall will be dazzling local teens as it serves as the venue for "More ball at U-Hall," a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament hosted by the Boys and Girls Club and the Charlottesville Parks & Recreation Department.

The tourney is an extension of the City's popular Friday night sports program, which provides supervised sports activities for kids until 2:00am! Normally, the program takes place at one of the City's rec centers, but this time the kids get to play in U-Hall!

"Bringing the kids to U-Hall to play basketball is a thrill," says Boys & Girls Club director of operations Steve Gough, who is expecting 200 kids to show up for the event. " They will have the opportunity to see what it's like to play basketball in a major arena." Gough hopes U-Hall will be available in the future for more local youth events.

The tournament is open to both boys and girls 13 to 18-years old, and will be played from 9:00pm to 2:00am. There will also be shooting contests, free areas to play hoops, and pizza and drinks for all the players. Trophies will be awarded to the top three co-ed teams in two age groups made up of 13 and 14-year olds and 15 to18-year olds. Buses will also be provided to pick-up and drop-off all participants. For more information about the event, contact the Boys & Girls Club at 434-293-3945.
