Sanjaya and other ‘Idols’ coming to JPJ

The American Idols Live tour will perform at Charlottesville's John Paul Jones Arena, according to an announcement on the venue's website this afternoon.

The tour, which arrives in Charlottesville on September 16th, will comprise the top ten finalists from this season's hugely popular Fox TV reality show. Sanjaya lovers, don't despair– the now-ousted Season Six sensation will be part of the tour, according to the John Paul Jones website.

Charlottesville is not new to Idol-inspired attention. Performing here last month, Bonnie Raitt lamented that it was a performance of one of her songs that caused Sanjaya's ouster. And then there's Chris Daughtry.
Although finishing last season's in fourth place, the 1998 Fluvanna County High School graduate created a self-titled debut album that went multi-platinum and spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard charts, making Daughtry the most commercially successful contestant in the 2006 Idol season.

According to JPJ, the other nine (besides Sanjaya) on the tour are Chris Sligh, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Haley Scarnato, Gina Glocksen, Jordin Sparks, Lakisha Jones, Melinda Doolittle, and Phil Stacey. After tonight's 9pm broadcast, only four contestants will remain in the running to be the next big thing on America's pop music scene.

The tour begins in Sunrise, Florida, on July 6 and will travel to various locations across the U.S. (plus Toronto) throughout the summer. Serious Idol idolizers can catch the show at other nearby venues in Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Hampton. Tickets for all shows go on sale Saturday, May 19th at 10am. Well, if anybody was still thinking that Charlottesville isn't "big time" yet, this ought to put those thoughts to rest once and for all.

This will be the best music every played here in this tiny village. I can't wait.

I wonder how many hair styles sanjaya will pull off this time:P
