Gilmore ends ‘08 presidential bid
On Saturday, former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore declared he was dropping out of the race to be the Republican nominee for President in 2008. "It has become apparent to me that the combination of my late start [he declared his candidacy in January], and the front loaded nature of the primary schedule, have made it impractical to continue to pursue this path towards further public service," Gilmore said in a press release. However, Virginia has not seen the last of Gov. "No Car Tax." Gilmore ends the withdrawal announcement by saying he is, "actively looking for other opportunities to continue in public service in the Commonwealth of Virginia," fueling speculation he will run for Sen. John Warner's seat in 2008, should the 80-year-old senator retire, or again for the governor's mansion in 2009.
