Costas blasts Bonds from Charlottesville

"It wouldn't matter if I were the mayor of the Munchkin City," says Bob Costas, live from Charlottesville this morning on the Today Show, retorting to alleged steroid-enhanced Barry Bonds' remarks that Costas is a "little midget man who knows (nothing) about baseball." Costas charges that Bonds wouldn't be close to breaking Hank Aaron's home run record without performance-enhancing drugs. Currently, Bonds is one dinger away from tying Aaron's career total of 755.

Why was Costas in Charlottesville? Is he with the B-52s now?

Interesting that Bob is so sure. Bonds' HR stats don't support his claim. With the exception of one huge year in 2001 when he hit 73, Bonds has been absurdly consistent since he came into the Majors - and there is NOBODY claiming that he has been juicing that long.

So let's say he juiced in 2001. Bring his totals that year down to his average for the two years before and after 2001, and let's say he would have hit 43. That would put him 32 away from tying Aaron. He's already hit 20 this year, so let's say he hits another 16. That would put him 16 away - all he'd have to do is hang around another year and he'd have it anyway.

Of course, Jose Canseco says Bonds was juicing, and Jose has credibility. That would be the same Jose who swears he ran a 3.9 40-yard dash...about four years ago. Yep - THAT Jose - says he's faster than any human has ever run. Mr. Credibility, indeed.

So Bonds probably juiced. So did some of the pitchers he batted against. Get over it. It's not like he lied his way into a war or is trying to relieve us of our civil rights. Get over it, Bob!
