VT memorial to be dedicated Sunday
After much speculation as to how Virginia Tech would choose to commemorate the shooting death of 33 students and faculty on April 16, the university will dedicate its memorial this Sunday. The memorial is located in front of Burruss Hall on the Drillfield and features 32 "Hokie Stones" set in a semicircle. Initially, temporary stones have held the place of permanent ones. Although Tech's plan has always been to build with 32 stones, a student added a 33rd temporary stone for the student who killed the 32 others before turning his gun on himself. The presence of the 33rd stone has reportedly been inconsistent, as it has been removed several times by those who do not wish to remember the killer in the same way as his victims.
