Mustangs earn a trip to state finals

It was ideal fall weather for a football game, and it ended ideally for the home team, as the Monticello Mustangs crushed the Poquoson Islanders today in the Division III state semifinals. A highly anticipated game, this one featured the 11-1 Mustangs, who won the Regional title by knocking off John Handley–- thanks in no small part to running back Takeem Hedgeman, who went into the game with 340 carries, 2,546 yards, and a mind-boggling 45 touchdowns this season. Despite the prediction by the Newport News paper that its hometown team would prevail, Monticello handily won 46-7.

And they excel academically, too!

Looks like they're playing on dirt. Doesn't anybody there know how to maintain a grass field in the late Autumn? Somebody should have overseeded a couple of months ago.

They don't care, they're winning.
