Word o’ the day: ‘clotheslined’

An item in the Daily Progress today about a group of seven juveniles mobbing a couple walking down Main Street and beating up a man has inquiring minds puzzling about this line: "Charlottesville Lt. Gary Pleasants said seven juveniles approached the man, who was clotheslined." For those whose street creds are shaky, according to Dictionary.com, clotheslining means "to knock down by hooking the neck with an outstretched arm." Another line to chew on in the short article has Pleasants adding, "[A]ssaults like this aren't too rare in the city."

Don't go downtown alone and for God's sake don't leave your house in Charlottesville unless you're packin.

Where the hell was Flaherty at? He could have knocked this crime wave on their butts and arrested them all by himself. If he decided he did need help, he could have called the county police and gotten Officer Greg Davis to run over them! :)

It's sad to hear that the assaults have started up again.

Next year they will pay $400 to get the rescue squad to come.

Who isn't familiar with the phrase clotheslining?
Fairly common.

The term "clotheslining" has been around for years - it's been part of the football vernacular since at least the 60's (when I was old enough to pay attention).
