Wind bill blasted in RoaTimes

The bill that would exempt small electric producers, such as the family-owned company that wants to put turbines on a ridge in the western part of the state, from a layer of government oversight has been blasted in a Roanoke Times editorial. "We supported the Highland project," says the Times, "but only because the SCC permit required monitoring that would show whether the number of bird and bat kills were acceptable." S.B. 324, proposed by Republican Frank Wagner, now lies in the hands of the State Senate's Commerce & Labor Committee, chaired by Democrat Dick Saslaw.
