Roanoke station wins Peabody Award

For their coverage of the shootings at Virginia Tech last April, NBC affiliate WSLS in Roanoke has won a Peabody Award, given annually by the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication for the year's greatest achievements in electronic media. In a press release, the awards committee wrote that, "Covering the worst mass shooting in United States history and its immediate aftermath, the news staff of this station in Roanoke, Virginia, demonstrated knowledge of their community, mastery of their journalistic craft and remarkable, much-needed calm." Also receiving Peabodys this year were 60 Minutes, PBS's Frontline, CNN Presents, The Colbert Report, and UVA alum Tina Fey for her work on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock.
