Arrests in Fairway shooting after victim dies
Charlottesville police have arrested three people in connection with last week's shooting on Fairway Avenue. The arrests happened Sunday, a day after one of the shooting victims died. The suspects, 28-year-old Curtis Tyrell Montague of Richmond (top left), 27-year-old Jada Marie Dubrose Dickerson (right), and 22-year-old Candace Marie Williams (bottom left),
are charged with several counts including first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a murder, following the death of 29-year-old Shawn Anthony Luck, who died on Saturday at UVA hospital as a result of his injuries.
According to the press release, the shooting was not the trio's only crime that day. They're also accused of committing a robbery earlier Tuesday for which they've each been charged with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery, abduction, and the use of a firearm in the commission of an abduction. No further details on that crime have been released, and neither police nor city spokesperson Ric Barrick have returned the Hook's call for comment.
The Fairway shooting happened around 2:45pm Tuesday afternoon, April 8. A witness says he watched as three vehicles
– a white Dodge minivan, a red car and gray or silver car– careered down Fairway as shots rang out. Although other news outlets reported the shooting had occurred inside the van, the witness believed the gun was fired from within the red car, striking two of the three passengers in the white van.
Two hours after the shooting, Charlottesville police plucked a chrome revolver with a wooden handle from a nearby mulch pile. In addition to Luck, whose injuries proved fatal, a second man was shot, and a female passenger injured her foot, possibly when the van struck a chain-link fence along Fairway Avenue. Those victims were treated and released on Tuesday.
Montague, Dickerson, and Williams are all being held at the Charlottesville Albemarle Regional Jail without bond until a hearing is scheduled in Charlottesville District Court.
