ATO's Choke grosses $1.3 mil. in first weekend

After selling it for $5 million to Fox Searchlight at this year's Sundance Film Festival in January, Charlottesville-based ATO Films watched its latest offering Choke gross $1.3 million in its opening weekend. That wasn't high enough to crack into the top 10 for the weekend, but respectable considering the film was only playing on 450 screens nationwide, compared to #1 Eagle Eye, which was screened at 3,510 locations. Still, the total falls well short of the film's budget of $8.4 million.
