If a person smells any odor of odorized natural gas inside their home, faint or strong, they should not check pilot lights or anything else. They should immediately evacuate the house without touching a telephone, a light switch, a garage door opener, or anything else and call the gas company only after they are away from the house at a different location. One former gas odorant manufacturer had a written warning that specifically stated that no judgment should be made on the concentration of natural gas based upon the intensity of the odor.
