Honenberger reads at New Dominion

Hook Fiction Contest winner Sarah Collins Honenberger will be reading from her new novel Waltzing Cowboys at the New Dominion Bookshop on Saturday, January 17 at 11am.

Said our own George Garrett, before he passed away in May, "I read Waltzing Cowboys with a great deal of pleasure. The writing is alive ”Š sense of place is excellent, and ”Š for all its dark side, it is, finally, a happy story about good people, unusual in this day and age. Unflinching, yet positive.”

Sarah Collins Honenberger’s fiction has won first place awards in The Antietam Review, New Millenium, Southit, and The Hook. Her first novel, White Lies – A Tale of Babies, Vaccines, and Deception was a book club favorite and a nominee for the Library of Virginia Fiction award in 2007. She is also the recipient of a fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

New Dominion Bookshop is at 404 East Main Street on the Downtown Mall. 434-295-2552

Tom Frederick is Tom Rhetoric from now on.

Soon we will be eating from styrofoam plates and drinking bottled water at restaurants like in 2002.

But golf courses are still being drenched with millions of gallons of water. Golf is not even a sport, golf is men in ugly pants walking.

In 2002 Tom Rhetoric was yapping his pie hole to the same tune, although at that time he was a subordinate to butt-buddy Mike Gaffney, a developer and then director of the Authority.

In the 5 years that has lapsed, these stooges have allowed (and built, in the case of Gaffney) thousands new homes to join the water line. Lots of talk and meetings, but nothing has been done to increase capacity.

City residents have had rate hikes along with county residents. Guess what, the city is about 90% buit-out. So in a nutshell, city residents have been subsidizing county sprawl. Guess where Gaffney builds most of his homes?

Tom Rhetoric is a cheerleader. Time to remove him from leadership and place true executives in the Authority.
