Dreams Old and New
On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. proclaimed: “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ââ?¬Ë?We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’” Ash Lawn-Highland, home of President James Monroe, celebrates the fulfillment of that dream with the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States with special programs in honor of Inauguration Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (and the 80th anniversary of King’s birth), and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Special activities for children allow the whole family to celebrate this historic occasion and honor our country’s chief executives, past, and present. 1000 James Monroe Parkway. 979-9181.
