What growth?

Charlottesville appears to have a people leak! A recent study shows that the City was the only Central Virginia locality to lose population between 2007 and 2008. Its population fell by 13 people to 39,638. Since 2000, the City has lost 461 people. Meanwhile, the county's population went up by 1356 people between 2007 and 2008 and has increased by 9,482 since 2000. Lynchburg's population increased by 5,465 since 2000, and Waynesboro's has increased by 1,094 since 2000. Only 8 other cities in Virginia lost more people from 2000 to 2008 than Charlottesville.

So City residents we don't need that 200+ million dollar water plan after all

7.5 million dollars worth of new bricks will bring the people back. We'll have a population explosion once that finishes in the spring.

The "water plan" as you call it is for more than just the City of Charlottesville. It includes Albemarle as well.

"Meanwhile, the county’s population went up by 1356 people between 2007 and 2008 and has increased by 9,482 since 2000."

This is an old story...we who can afford it are moving to the county to escape the dregs asking for handouts, the free-spending socialist government that looks like a throwback to Kent State and the fairy Kennedy's-In-Training who preen on campus in khakis and rep-stripe ties overusing the word "dude." For those of you stuck in the city, go huff some free incense on the mall!

Sara if the county folks want to pay for a 200+million dollar water plan to facilitate county growth I'm sure the City would be more than happy to send them the bill. Just don't ask the City to subsidize it !

Fifty years from now, someone unwisely has projected that the city and county will be using 18 million gallons daily. Does anybody really think that there is a need for a 2.2 BILLION gallon storage tank? If the cost of living in Chalbemarle continues to rise as fast as it has, the only source of population increase will be UVA student enrollment.
Also, people seem to forget that the Weldon Cooper Center's estimates for the city's population in 2000 was off by around negative 5000 (12%).
