Virginia gets $1.6 billion in stimulus aid

Governor Tim Kaine (D) announced Friday, March 6 that Virginia has received $1.6 billion in aid from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act recently passed by Congress and signed by President Obama. Kaine says citizens can track expenditure of those funds through the website. Already the original bill specifically allocated $730.4 million for K-12 education, $39.8 million for public safety grants to localities, and $694.5 million for transportation infrastructure.

Wow. That should help fill the budget gap. Does it have to be used immediately on construction projects, etc?
