Dear Jan
I am a friend of your parents, Ivan and Helen, and have just read your wonderful book, Wind. My husband, Randy, is now reading it. We are avid sailors in the Chesapeake and the Caribbean Islands. I borrowed the books, Wind and Year of the Comets from Sally and Paul Robinson whose daughter you may remember from Brandywine High School days. You and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers following the accident which led to the end of life for your son, Reid. I have so enjoyed your references to him in the book /especially his love of reading and his appetite for adventure.
I hope to meet you someday if you are in Wilmington visiting Helen and Ivan.
Susan
Dear Jan,
You were a great neighbor, and I am so sorry I didn't get in touch with you sooner. When I looked you up just now I found out about your son. I am so sorry. I have very fond thoughts of Manteo, our discussions and our movie nights. I am back in Florida. Maybe you will drop me a line.

What a powerhouse you are. Thank you for all you do for the natural world, and for Carolina's coast. Let's conserve energy, not drill on wild coasts.
