Forest group seeks new leader
A Virginia-based forest conservation group announces it will seek a new leader. Like the current 500-Year Forest Foundation boss, Ted Harris of Lynchburg, the new
leader will volunteer the time. Currently, the group works with landowners, including Hal and Jean Kolb in Albemarle, to conserve, educate, and stamp out invasive plants.

I hope this organization becomes involved in protecting the wonderful old growth forest at Ragged Mt., largely undisturbed in the last 100 years, from complete destruction by the building of an unnecessary 112' dam that will destroy 54,000 mature trees in this beautiful area.
"The Ragged Mountain Natural Area near Charlottesville, Virginia, is a beautiful 980-acre forest of mature oak, hickory, poplar, pine, and maple trees with two lakes and more than four miles of shoreline. Seven miles of trail lead through majestic forest, along rugged terrain, and through areas rich with wildlife and offer a unique opportunity for wilderness hiking within minutes of town."
here's a description of what will be lost:

I wonder if they work to purchase private land for preservation? There is a large forested parcel at Rio-29 that will soon be lost if the county doesn't act soon. (read from bottom of posts up)
