40th anniv. of Manson massacre

news-lynette-fromme It was 40 years ago today–- August 9, 1969–- that five people were slain at a hilltop house in L.A.'s Benedict Canyon in the first wave of what became known as the Tate/LaBianca killings, which were perpetrated by drug-addled members of the "family" of male-on-male prison rapist, racist, and wanna-be musician Charles Manson. Ironically, one of Manson's gun-wielding mistresses, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, will be released from jail

this Friday, August 14, nearly 34 years after her 1975 attempt to assassinate President Gerald R. Ford. (The top chronicler of the California murders, Vincent Bugliosi–- who opposes the release of the now 60-year-old Fromme–- appeared in Charlottesville last year.)

This Charlottesville tie-in is kind of a stretch. It's also the 35th anniversary of Nixon's resignation, which has more of a tie-in because of all of the presidential documents work at U.Va.

lots of drug-addled folk in c'ville. maybe that's the tie-in here WBF... we've got a few hilltop houses around here too
