More Halloween Movies

The Paramount Theater hosts a month's worth of scary movies during October on the largest HD screen in Central Virginia. Tonight's feature is the 1925 horror classic, Universal Studio’s The Phantom of the Opera starring the legendary Lon Chaney, Sr., “Man of a Thousand Faces,” in a career-defining role. His groundbreaking, self-applied make-up still has the power 84 years later to make audiences recoil at the moment the Phantom is unmasked in his lair beneath the Paris Opera House. It so shocked 1920’s movie-goers that it reportedly caused some members of the audience to faint. This highly influential film paved the way for the great Universal Horror films of the 1930’s, and is a well-respected horror classic in its own right; it’s the perfect lead-in to Halloween! The film is presented with live musical accompaniment by Matt Marshall and the Reel Music Ensemble. The Paramount Theater, on the Downtown Mall. 979-1922.
