Local poets rack up Library of VA awards
Charlottesville writers dominated in poetry at the 12th Library of Virginia awards October 17 in Richmond. UVA English prof Lisa Russ Spaar won the poetry prize for Satin Cash, her fourth collection. The Weinstein Poetry award went to Charles Wright and Eleanor Ross Taylor.
Although not a local, Annette Gordon-Reed won the nonfiction prize for her book about a local family, The Hemingses of Monticello, which also won the National Book Award last November and the Pulitzer in April. Washington and Lee's Domnica Radulescu was awarded the fiction prize for Train to Trieste. And Covesville resident John Grisham took home a lifetime achievement award.
