Delicious Loop in Nelson

news-nelsonThis weekend Nelson County will officially christen the Nelson Scenic Loop, a 50-mile auto and biking tour route through the beautiful and historic landscape and architecture of the County. In addition to a number of scheduled events, including an old-fashioned country Square Dance on June 11 and a 75th birthday celebration for the Blue Ridge Parkway at scenic Skylark Farm on June 13, which you can find out about by going to www.nelsonscenicloop.com, the tour will be a veritable tour-de-force of the Nelson food scene.

In Nellysford, the Blue Ridge Pig, Ambrosia sandwich shop and bakery, and Basic Necessities offer up some truly tasty grub. Nearby the Devil’s Backbone Brewery and Java Depot will be offering special tie in events to the festivities. A couple of roadside country stores will surprise weary travelers with alternatives to the usual pork rinds and cheesy crackers. Try Mac’s Country Store and the Montebello Country Store along Route 151 and 56 respectively. Nearby truly unexpected treats include Thai Siam, and Colleen’s Drive-in. You’ll also want to check out Vito’s Italian Restaurant (the place locals love), the Nelson County Farmer’s Market, and Dickie Brothers Orchard.
